BRAZILLIAN KILLED IN BED AFTER HIS COW FELL ON HIM FROM THE ROOF (PHOTO)

A Brazilian man reportedly died after a 1.5 tonne cow fell through the roof of his home and
crushed him in his bed.
João Maria de Souza, 45, was asleep with his wife, Lena when the escaped horned bovine fell
8ft from the roof of their home in Caratinga, south east of Brazil.
It is understood the animal escaped the local grazing ground, went downhill, broke through a
fence of the victims' home and climbed onto the corrugated iron roof which then collapsed.
He was rescued by Caratinga's fire department and taken to hospital with a fractured leg,
several injuries to the chest and abdomen and internal bleeding.
According to his family, the victim cried out for help as he waited hours to receive treatment,
and was seen to be urinating blood. He later died in his mother's arms.
Tests showed the Mr de Souza died from an "acute haemorrhage" and "thoracoabdominal
trauma".
Mr de Souza's brother-in-law told the Brazilian newspaper, Hoje em Dia, "Being crushed by a
cow is the last way you expect to leave this earth.
"But in my view it wasn't the cow that killed our João, it was the unacceptable time he spent
waiting to be examined".
The cause of death is now known after a Brazilian news network gained access to de Souza's
death certificate.
"It was found the cause of death was acute haemorrhage and thoracoabdominal trauma, an
analysis of coroner Nicholas Cesar Costa, who signed the death certificate".
An inquiry into the unexpected death has been launched by the Civil Police in Caratinga and
the family is seeking justice after suspected negligence of de Souza's care whilst at the
Municipal Emergency Care.
