IF GEJ WINS THE NEXT ELECTION........

Barely months to the next presidential election in Nigeria and one can fairly say without fear of being misunderstood, that never has the Nigerian political space been so charged by the hob-nobbing and schemings of the contenders. It is fair to say, that serious desire and/or greed for power at all possible cost has been the root cause of these grand schemes. Never has our nation witnessed the political re-alignment of forces that has for a few months now characterized our Nation. All of a sudden, the All Progressives Congress became the beautiful bride for politicians who have come to a shocking realization that the PDP cannot and may not serve their immediate power desires. The presence of GEJ in the Aso Rock has indeed sparked serious political tension in the hearts of those who feel his minority background should not be allowed to rule the nation for long.

I must say, that the most common word that political adversaries of GEJ has used to describe him in recent times does not exactly draw the image of the man GEJ. He has been called ‘clueless’time and again, because according to them, he has no idea how to run Nigeria. However, as much as his ‘plain’demeanor agrees with the word ‘clueless’, his performances so far as the President of the Nigerian State disagrees completely with the word. I am not to discuss the achievements of the GEJ government in this piece as I have done that before (You may Read my article here for that http://www.oderinuadedayo.co.uk/2014/11/goodluck-jonathan-gets-my-vote-again-in.html). He often looks too blank and ‘clueless’if I may honestly admit, but he has proved beyond reasonable doubt, that he is certainly capable of manning the Nigerian ship.

I must also say, that the struggle for power from the camps of GMB and AAA are not exactly pro bono publico but are in the interest of themselves and the party they represent. While GMB is being used as a ‘borrow-pose’by some power-greedy persons whose personalities are not pure enough to be sold to the Nigerian electorate (BAT and his likes), AAA is in the contest for the obvious reason – lust for power, which has made him a deluded political nomad for almost ten years. GMB may yet be absolved of blame because he is obviously not completely aware of the kind of insincerity that lurks even in his own backroom, maybe because of his undue innocence. Yet, we cannot overlook the evil tendencies of a GMB government – evils that he will not perpetrate but that his innocent weakness will allow.

However, those who are around the fair General will not allow him have any access to truth and pure thinking because of the danger such poses to their ambitions. They are infact worsening his situation with the description of his ideologies as ‘Buharism’(even SLS once called it that). They are making him feel he enjoys an almost religious following and a celestial bond with the masses which is a lie from the belly of devils. While Nigerians may yet like GMB for his sincerity of purpose, they have made it clear to him the last three times he contested that they prefer him serving his fatherland from the sidelines than being at the helm of affairs. Nigerians have rejected him thrice, why beat an already dead horse?

Let us stop the GMB talk and face the real situation. That is, what will be the consequences of a victory for GEJ at the polls in 2015? Will Nigeria break up? Will our nation be the better for it? Who and who will be at the receiving end of some massive shame? I think we have our answers clear before us if we are ready to do justice.

First, victory for GEJ means utter disgrace for two men who should have gone to retirement when the ovation was loudest but refused to. These are, OBJ and GMB! While GMB should have stopped active politics and render good service to his country as a backbone and advisor, OBJ should have stopped meddling in political affairs to the point of wanting to dictate who becomes the next president of Nigeria. The presence of these two in the Council of State is enough pointer to the fact that Nigeria needs them only in advisory roles and not as presidential candidates or political godfathers. It is evident to us all, that the present-day romance between the APC and OBJ spells doom for Baba if GEJ goes ahead to win that election – ígi taa feyinti ti o gbańi duro, bo ba wolu eni, kii pani’. If without OBJ’s support GEJ wins, I am sure it is the end of the road for the old man.

Also, victory for GEJ means the Hausa elites are in for a big show of shame. These Hausa ‘big men’ has taken Nigerians for fools too many times believing in their greedy hearts that only an hausa man has the right to govern Nigeria. Let us reason objectively, if Yaradua were alive, would he not seek re-election? Why then is GEJ forbidden to do same? Whatever is good for an Hausa/Fulani man, isn’t same good for an Ijaw man? Obasanjo from South-West Nigeria ran two terms and nearly made a third, why is it now a taboo for the man from the South-South? If GEJ wins in 2015, the northern elites can forget about being the power deciders in Nigeria and accept defeat once and for all.

Again, victory for GEJ will mean an end to the manner in which Northerners has held Nigeria captive in the oil sector for years. It is a known fact that most oil prospecting licenses will expire in the year 2016. This particular fact has even heated the political scenery beyond measure. This is because the Hausas want to be in power by the time these licenses will be renewed so they can re-award the licenses to their cabal as they have done in the not-too-distant past. However, if GEJ wins the next election, there will be a major re-arrangement of the Nigerian economic forces such that the Hausa elites will for the first time in the history of our nation, be reduced to ordinary mortals that they truly are. Never again will the hausas dictate the flow of economic forces and we will be free from the northern stranglehold once and for all.

Conclusively, if GEJ wins the 2015 Presidential elections, it will be a victory for the minority tribes of the Nigerian ethnic divide. These minorities have for very long been made to feel as though they are mere spectators in the runnings of our government. His victory will rekindle hope in their hearts and make them further believe in the Nigerian project. His loss of course will make these minority tribes revolt and we might possibly have a secession battle on our hands.

Whatever the outcome may be, the writer prays that 2015 will go down peacefully in the history of our nation and above all, the best man for the job shall be enthroned (I pray steadfastly that the best man in the sight of God shall be GEJ).
God bless Nigeria!
